What Is the MultiFrax® Laser?

The MultiFrax® laser is considered a more aggressive form of laser resurfacing. It works using an ablative fractional laser to deliver intense heat to a focused area of the skin. In the process, it vaporizes damaged skin cells while stimulating collagen production. As a result, this procedure encourages a smoother, healthy, and youthful complexion. The MultiFrax® laser is minimally invasive and involves the use of a topical or local anesthetic prior to beginning the procedure.

At our dermatology clinic, we recommend the MultiFrax® laser to patients with mild to moderate complexion concerns and skin damage. Its results are compelling, long-lasting, and sure to please.

Cosmetic Concerns That Can Be Treated

Part of what makes the MultiFrax® laser so revolutionary is its versatility in addressing various cosmetic conditions. As the ablative fractional laser vaporizes the outer damaged layer of skin, it reveals a healthy and rejuvenated layer underneath, thus acting as the perfect solution for treating common concerns, such as:

  • Decreased Elasticity — Because the MultiFrax® laser encourages collagen production, it allows for increased skin laxity and plumpness.
  • Scarring —This treatment reduces the appearance of acne scars and promotes healthy cell regeneration by removing damaged skin cells and scar tissue.
  • Signs of Aging — As this treatment stimulates collagen, it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Uneven Complexion — The MultiFrax® laser breaks down damaged and hyperpigmented cells to reduce uneven skin tone and texture.

The Benefits of a MultiFrax® Laser Procedure

The MultiFrax® laser stands out among other laser resurfacing treatments because of the unparalleled benefits that it provides patients. By rejuvenating the skin and stimulating the healthy production of collagen, this procedure offers long-lasting and effective results such as:

  • Improved skin health and quality
  • Smoother complexion texture
  • Tighter, more elastic skin

In addition, this treatment is minimally invasive and offers a rapid recovery time.

What To Expect From This Treatment

Before scheduling an appointment for a MultiFrax® laser procedure, it is ideal to know what to expect before, during, and after treatment.

Before

Our dermatology clinic may prescribe a hydroquinone cream before the day of the procedure to help prepare your skin if you are prone to hyperpigmentation. Please notify your provider if you have a history of cold sores, as you may need preventive treatment in order to avoid an outbreak. Please discontinue the use of any harsh skin care products you may be using in your routine, including retinoids (retinol, adapalene, tretinoin, or products containing these ingredients). Avoid tanning products and excessive sun exposure.

During

We will apply a topical or local anesthetic to your skin before starting the procedure. The MultiFrax® laser will be focused on a targeted treatment area to eliminate uneven texture, fine lines, and other concerns. After the treatment is complete, we will apply a serum or ointment to soothe your skin.

After

You may experience swelling, redness, or minor discomfort after the procedure. You can ease these symptoms with OTC medications or a cold compress. The recovery time averages between one to two weeks, and you will notice evolving yet dramatic results within three to six months.
