Effective And Comprehensive Eczema Treatment

What Is Eczema?

Eczema, also known as Atopic Dermatitis, is a common condition that affects children and adults. It can begin in childhood, appearing in the form of a rash. Eczema can result from an overactive immune system, from genetics and even environmental stresses. This rash can commonly be found around the arms and knees that presents as inflammation of the skin, which can lead to itchiness, yellow crust on the skin, swelling, and cracked skin. For some, eczema can last for years, but for others, a simple treatment can be used to get rid of the condition. Eczema severity and symptoms vary between each individual. Turn To An Experienced Eczema Dermatologist

Our experienced dermatologists will be able to effectively diagnose your condition in order to find the best treatment solution for you. The diagnosis will typically consist of skin patch or skin prick tests, as no lab test will be needed. These tests will help the dermatologist rule out any other skin diseases, while identifying other conditions that may be affecting your eczema. If you think that allergies may be causing your rash, then let your dermatologist know so that we can find the proper treatment for you.

Treating Your Eczema

Everyone will have a different experience with their eczema. For many people, eczema is a chronic disease that will not go away over time and will need constant treatment. There is currently no cure for eczema, there are only treatments that will heal the skin and reduce the flare of the symptoms. The treatments that are available will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Topical Cream: There is a variety of topical creams and ointments that can be applied to your eczema to reduce itchiness. One of the most effective creams is a topical corticosteroid cream. This can vastly improve the symptoms of eczema by reducing the severity of the symptoms.
  • Antibiotics: Bacteria can also be a cause of eczema so, therefore, antibiotics may be the best treatment option. A skin patch or skin prick test can be conducted in order to see if there is a bacterial skin infection.
  • Oral Corticosteroids: Oral medication, such as corticosteroids, can reduce inflammation and itching for mild eczema. Depending on the severity, a stronger corticosteroid may be needed.
  • Light Therapy (Phototherapy): During this process, the affected skin is exposed to UVB light in order to reduce inflammation. This process lasts over several weeks so that the skin will become used to the UVB light and the dose is adjusted accordingly.

These are just some of the eczema treatment options that can help our patients struggling with this condition. It is always best to consult your board-certified dermatologist first. Schedule an appointment with our eczema dermatologist today.
