Meet Dr. Carter

Dornechia George Carter, M.D.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dornechia George Carter, M.D., is an award-winning board-certified Dallas-Fort Worth area dermatologist who has called the Metroplex home since 2011. Her scope of practice encompasses medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology with a special interest in psoriasis, skin of color, skin cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. She takes pride in tailoring treatment plans for each patient’s individual needs and educating patients about their skin.

Undergraduate Education:

Dr. Carter completed her undergraduate education at Cornell University, earning a dual degree in Human Development and Human Biology, Health, and Society.

Medical School & Residency

She attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas as a Diversity Scholar. Following internship at Houston Methodist Hospital, she completed her training at Baylor as the first African-American resident in the Department of Dermatology. She is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Press, Publications & Awards

Dr. Carter has publications in multiple medical journals, and is a sought after skin expert. Dr. Carter has been featured on NPR, Trinity Broadcasting Network, CW Network and NBC Channel 5. She has been a consultant for local and national publications, such as The Dallas Morning NewsWoman’s Day, and WebMD Magazine.

She has also been selected by her peers as a D Magazine Best Doctor in Dallas-Ft. Worth and Collin County annually since 2014. Dr. Carter has also been chosen as a Texas Rising Star from 2015-2017, honored as a SuperDoctor each year since 2019, and recently she was selected as a 2022 Local Profile Top Doctor in Collin County.

Presentations / Organizations

Dr. Carter has presented at The American Academy of Dermatology and the Texas Dermatological Society. She is a past president of the C. V. Roman Medical Society, the local chapter of the National Medical Association. During her tenure, she augmented the active membership roll to include over 100 members, instituted volunteer and educational programming for local physicians, and hosted the inaugural C. V. Roman Memorial Scholarship Gala. As a result, the society earned the honor of 2019 National Medical Association Large Society of the Year. Dr. Carter is the current chair of the local chapter’s Past Presidents’ Council.

Community

As someone who enjoys public outreach and volunteerism, she her time as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Tau Rho Omega Chapter. She also participates in various DFW-area health fairs and serves as a mentor to college students, medical students, and residents. She is also a member of the Greater Frisco Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, serving as outgoing protocol chair, and incoming social chair. Jack and Jill is an organization with its heart set on creating educational and social opportunities for the enrichment of all children. Finally, she's the arts and education chair for the PTA for children's elementary school.

Dr. Carter proudly serves patients in the following North Texas cities: Plano, Lewisville, Carrollton, Frisco, Prosper, Little Elm, Celina, Allen, Flower Mound, Dallas, Farmers Branch, The Colony, Denton, McKinney, Coppell, Irving, Southlake, Grapevine, Las Colinas, Valley Ranch, and Rowlett.

Family

Dr. Carter, and her husband, Dr. Kenny Carter (otolaryngology), are parents to two wonderful and brilliant little boys. In her free time, she enjoys running for exercise, reading books, and traveling around the world with her family.
